Ethno music

Hey guys, I really love some of your macedonian ethno groups - Mizar, Anastasia. I've heard that Kismet, Arhangel/I don't know if they are ethno/ are very good too, but unfortuantely in Bulgaria there's no way to find any macedonian recordings, so I can't buy them. That's why I would appreciate it, if you help me find some mp3s of those bands. I have just one album from Anastasia/don't know the name/ and one of mizar - Кобна Убавина.
If you wish to, we could exchange some music-I have some very good bulgarian ethno:)..

Regards,
Milen:)
matrix_max http://www.mytempdir.com/682611 Isihia - Kosti :)
dejan Thanks Milen:)
Isihia is very interesting, sounds different then some other songs i've heard of this genre, thanks:)
matrix_max You're welcome Dejan:) I'll probably send you some more later. You see, some of their songs are much like Anastasia's..maybe because it's kinda dark sound. But they have their own spirit as you can probably feel:)
ZooGraf Hi matrix,
Best way that I know of if you install DC++
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dcplusplus/DCPlusPlus-0.668.exe?use_mirror=ovh

From there you can connect to some Slovenian or Croatian hubs, and you'll probably find most of Mizar songs.
I have "Kobna ubavina", but also some of the other songs. From Anastasia, I have mostly songs from "Before the Rain" and one Arhangel album. If you have dedicated space I can upload them.

Also check this:

http://www.unet.com.mk/underground/
Here you can download some songs before 1996, but they are not CD quality.

Tell us something about Bulgarian ethno groups.
matrix_max Thank you ZooGrafe:) I'll tell you with the greatest pleasure of the bulgarian ethno-scene - there is a band called Исихия (Isihia or Isihiq written in latinic letters:)). They are very good indeed and have two albums - I guess their names are Исихия and Орисия. There is also one very interesting group from Varna called Лот Лориен (Lot Lorien)-their sound is traditional but still very inspiring. Here's a link to some of their video clips - http://www.armenelos.org/campus/musichall/lotlorien_news.php
Теодосий Спасов (Teodosii Spasov) is also a name on the bulgarain scene - he is a flute player and has many albums. If you like something between ethno and Jazz, then maybe you would like to hear ethno formation Bulgara. I personally don't like them. And if you prefer ethno-metal, there is one very interesting young band called Балканджи (Balkanji). Мистерията на българските гласове (aka Mistery of the bulgarian voices) is not ethno but folklore, but they are quite well known outside Bulgaria. For example Goran Bregovich used them for the Arizona Dream soundtrack. Now all the bulgarian free servers are closed but you can find something with a torrent tracker(torrents.linkos.bg). Do you still have the free-s in Macedonia?
ZooGraf Hi again,
Lot Lorien sounds very nice; they seem to be influenced by renaissance music as well. The song "Nine Iron Doors" by Anastasia remotely resembles this kind of music.

Unfortunately, I haven't heard a sample of the music by other artist mention by you. I like the name Isihia, if you checked my profile I placed the name of the greatest critic of hesychasm in 14th century.

Anyway, I still think your best bet is trough DC++ or some other peer to peer apps. I uploaded some songs from Mizar before Kobna ubavina on http://www.mytempdir.com ~ free dedicated web hosting service with no registration needed. Enjoy!

dejan Have you heard of Synthesis Matrix Max??
www.mkmuzika.com has a lot of those type of songs i believe.
matrix_max Thank you both:)
Zoograf, I'm downloading the music from the directory you gave me:). I've heard something about nine iron doors (девет враке железни? ) in the first song from Before the rain. Is this the song you mean? I don't have any space where I could upload my music, but the site you used is free, isn't it? I'll upload something of Isihia, you'll probablyy like them.
Hi dejan, nice to "meet" you:). I've tried to register three times for this site, but they wouldn't allow me. Why - I don't know. Perhaps Ishould try once more in a while:). But no, I haven't heard of this band yet.
matrix_max Hey guys, I've uploaded something for you:) Enjoy:) If you like it, there will be more. But why the hell do I upload so slowly -20 minutes for a single song. That's unfair!:)

http://www.mytempdir.com/665105 - Isihia Gargi

http://www.mytempdir.com/665154 - Isihia Aramii
matrix_max Here's something different - Балканджи(Balkanji). Ethno metal as I already explained you.

dejan Thanks for those downloads matrix max!:) I'll check them out when i have more time to download!
I'm not sure why mkmuzika isn't working for you...but keep on trying, or email the Admin there, 'MS'. And once you register, i believe you need 5 posts to be able to download.

Synthesis is another band, sort of similar to the style that you are talking about but also traditional too.
You can listen to some samples here http://www.macedoniadirect.com/music/search.asp :)
matrix_max I already registered for mkmuzika, аnd posted 5 messages. Now what? Where do I download from?
dejan As far as i know, mkmuzika is changing something with the music, so it's gonna be down for a few days, but check back by the end of the week it should be back up and just search for songs:)
matrix_max Synthesis sounds very nice:) I also liked Dragan Dautovski and Kaldrma ver much. You have some really good ethno bands

Can you tell me something about macedonian films? Is there a place where I can download some?
TimeHacker e dobri se Synthesis

Not that I know of. Make sure you see "Golemata Voda". The music+camera is great.
dejan Try those DC++ programs...if you know how to use it...there is also www.tracker-mk.org
matrix_max Super:)
I have some problems with DC, but the tracker is super good:) Well there are not many users but it will do:) Thanks dejan. Do u have other, bigger trackers:)
By the way I watched Bal-can-can yeserday:) Very nice and funny film indeed, as well as serious at some moments:)
dejan Tracker-mk is a bit new...so it might be a bit hard to download from it. www.podzemlje.com i have noticed sometimes has had Macedonian movies, not sure about now, but you could ask in the forum, request...
Yeah Bal-can-can is a good movie, funny but also very serious at times!
matrix_max Thanks Dejan, I'll try that tracker out too, cause there not many seeders at MK, but still it's ok, cause I downloaded Kismet and this group is really great:).
About Bal-can-can I think it's one of the best comedies recenly(of course it nearly made me cry on some occasions) and I could compare it to Black Cat, White Cat, which is one of my personal favourites:). In Bulgaria many people like the film, but there are also some, that really hate it, because of the wa bulgarians are shown - as corrupt and always wanting money. But I think it was funny in a way, cause everything was a bit exaggerated to make it look silly. And it's also true, that there is huge corruption in our administration. Additionally the film was really good at showing the silly side of the majority of balkan people. I nearly collapsed laughing as I saw the serbian mafia-boss and the montenegrian drug-dealers, disguised as village people:)
dejan Yeah i know, the movie stereotyped Balkan people a bit, but i guess the director did that to get the effect he wanted...overall it was a good movie i guess in showing how you can live a normal every day life in the Balkans and suddenly find yourself entwined in Balkan affairs with mafia bosses and such.
Some of the funny parts were good, but i don't think comedy and tragedy go well like with this movie...just my view on it.

If you can get Before the Rain that is also supposed to be a good movie.
Here's a website that talks about Macedonian films...you can get an idea from there http://www.maccinema.com/index.asp

Would you be able to recommend some Bulgarian films? I haven't heard of any and would like to know more about them!:)
matrix_max Well of course I would:). Our film industry is not quite good nowadays - they produce 2-3 films a year, and usually it is crap. So I'm gonna tell you about older films, which are classics in a way. We have some real good comedies - for instance Топло. A well known bulgarian comedian is Тодор Колев, all his films are very funny, for instance Господин за един ден, Двойникът and so on. Козият рог is a sad film about the turkish yoke, but it's also good. I've heard that Вчера is a classic too and I've downloaded it, but I haven't watched it yet. You should have a cyrilic flex-type but if you cannot read some of the letters that I've written I'll write them in latin:) But the movies have no english translation, so you'll have to find them on torrents.linkos.bg in the way I've written them to you. They won't have english or macedonian subs either. On the site there is also a bulgarian film section, so you won't have problems finding them. If I come up with more movies I'll let you know:)
dejan Thanks for those!:)
Yeah i can read the letters and understand too:)
matrix_max Под Игото is also good. It's based on the novel from Ivan Vazov, which is considered to be a classic and the first bulgarian novel ever. Тютюн by Dimitar Dimov is also a classic(the book is great too):)
dejan Can you buy such movies in Bulgaria?
I'm not sure about Macedonia, but i assume you would be able to.
matrix_max Hmm I assume you mean buying them on DVD?
Well not exactly...they are sold exclusively with some newspapers( for 4 leva= 2 euro approximately). Every week there used to be a film with the paper on Saturday. But as piracy is spread in Bulgaria they are all on the internet, so I bought just 3 of them and some of the films I download. Otherwise u cannot buy them on a cassette, they are not sold anywhere. Sometimes they show them on TV, but nothing more.
I don't know why, but there's such an initiative here - allmost every newspaper tries to get new readers buy offering free DVD-s with films, but usually the films are absolutely stupid third class american crap from the middle 90-s.
Only this with the BG-films was ok:) The paper that sold those films used to sell classical novels too.
dejan Ahhh ok!
Still, very smart of those newspapers what they do:p
But i guess it is better and faster to download them:p
matrix_max lol:) and cheeper too. My internet costs 10 Euro per month and I download more than 50 films, also music etc. but older people don't know how to download, so they buy it. Now the police attempts to stop piracy in BG, but it's not that easy to make people buy original CDs and DVDs for 20-30 Euro, when the average salary per month is 150 Euro. They may dream about it..

Oh my god, I have only seen Black Cat, White Cat four times, that movie is brilliant!!! And those Gypsies with trumpets, awesome!
BTW, almost everybody in the movie is a crook, so the Bulgarian is not an exception.

If you've seen the movie "Matrix", you'll understand this:

matrix_max Haha that was pretty good with the matrix:)

I love Black Cat, White Cat:) I've also watched it 4-5 times or so.. I've also downloaded Underground, so I hope it will be as funny as this. I recently watched the "Jivot je chudo" but it wasn't really my taste.

Underground is also good movie, but there are lots of symbolism, so it helps if you lived under communism, especially in former Yugoslavia.
I saw Kusturica last year at Belgrade’s airport. He looks like a primitive peasant, but the dude is genius.
kewlrats I suggest checking out MIRAGE as well. It is a good Macedonian movie too. I have a review of Golemata Voda on my site, MakLink.com, as well as about 1500 MP3 there too.
:)

I love Synthesis and Dragan Dautovski Quartet! I suggest listening to Vlatko Stefanovski & Miroslav Tadic's music... great stuff!
matrix_max Hehe I have lived under communism for 5 years, but not in Jugoslavia.. so I guess there is some chance that I understand:)
matrix_max Thanks kewlrats, I'll check Maklink out:)

By the way do you know what "DD" in "DD Synthesis" stands for?
