Singapore
Singapore
BorisVM Best time to go: Singapore is hot year-round, with high humidity. It's wettest from November to January Once a sleepy colonial backwater, Singapore is now the largest port in Southeast Asia. It is located about 85 miles north of the Equator where the Indian Ocean meets the South China Sea, so if you are planning a trip there, be prepared to have a hot and sticky time as humidity levels can get pretty high. Singapore is now known as the Lion City, and although it is a bustling metropolis, it maintains a delightful colonial flavour, and thanks to its colourful multicultural population the city has many exciting areas to discover, from aromatic Little India to the atmospheric Arab quarter, and from crowded Chinatown to the downtown Colonial District. Singapore’s colonial charm is never more evident than in the Raffles Hotel, famed for its luxury, elegance and of course, the Singapore Sling cocktail which we are told was invented by a Raffles bartender in 1915. Raffles has been welcoming guests since 1887 and Somerset Maugham, Noel Coward, Rudyard Kipling and Joseph Conrad are reported to have enjoyed Raffles hospitality in their time. Raffles certainly isn’t short of claims to fame. It was the first building in Singapore with electric lights and fans, and it has been reported that the last tiger to be killed on the island was actually shot inside the hotel. If you are visiting Singapore, it would be a shame to miss out on this piece of history, and even if you don’t stay there, you could always drop into the bar for a quick Singapore Sling.
 • in Singapore, you can be fined for jay-walking, chewing gum, eating on the pavement and failing to flush a public toilet
 • during World War II, Raffles Hotel was a Japanese Officers’ quarters
 • apparently the Singapore Sling was originally meant as a ladies drink, hence the pink colour

Legal-Eagle Nope, I described Singapore. I know Singapore when i smell it. My tip for the Melbourne Cup is .... save your money DON'T BET! THis year is the hardest year ever to pick the winner. I think a lot of the jockeys held the horses back during running on Saturday and races leading up to the Melbourne Cup. So i am keeping my money firmly on the bar ... I'll have another Toohey's New thanks.[:D]

Shema safe travels. Dont drink the water! Do NOT brush your teeth with tap water. Make sure you have lots of bottled water on hand. Do NOT let the girls charm you too much. Let me be the bearer of bad news, they may look like girls but once you lift their skirt, they are definitely BOYS. Eat plenty of McDonalds, it was the only food that tasted kind of normal. And dont forget to buy me heaps of presents[:I]
DJ_SHEMA Well seemd like you dig into the night life quite well. I will be with my missus so no shows for me, other than privae ones [;)]

The water is not the safest, but the shopping is great. As for accommodation I recommend the Mandarin Orchard Hotel on Orchard Road. I can't comment on the nightlife in Singapore (Legal covered that topic quite adequately [;)][:p][B)]) but for during the day, places of interest are, the Singapore Zoo, the Botanical Gardens, Chinatown and there are also some beautiful temples to visit. I urge you to experience the cable car ride from the World Trade Centre (on the mainland) to Santosa Island. Whilst waiting for the cable car you must have your photo taken with a snake wrapped around you (this is a prerequisite for Show and Tell [;)]) Happy and Safe Travels

Singapore STINKS. As soon as you get off the plane, a 'dead animal smell' hits your nostrils. It is hot, it is muggy and i cant breathe in singapore. I hate the shopping because everything you buy there is an imitation, and once you get it back home it either falls apart or stops working. Furthermore sweet and sour pork, or steamed jasime rice does not taste the same as it does at the Chinese Take-away down the road from home![:(][:(]
I beg to differ. You have just described Bangkok not Singapore. Besides, Melbourne is the place to be today, any tips [?] and if so make sure it's the winning number [;)]

Well, what i am saying is that there are a lot of transexuals there, I cant remember the name of the road exactly it is just off the main shopping drag. There are a lot of night/strip clubs, and let me tell you, a lot of those "girls" have had "IT" nicked and tucked [:I] I want someone with a bit of a scientific mind to explain to me how one girl in particular smoked a cigar with her private parts and was blowing smoke rings!!!! The water is DISGUSTING!!!! For your own health DO NOT DRINK IT! It will make you terribly ill[xx(]

mafisKumA I adhered to your advice but instead of the bar, I headed straight for the Seafood Buffet[^] and now the dress that I was going to wear to the wedding this week end is busting at the seams[:(], therefore I hold you personally negligent for failing to warn me of the consequences in self indulgence[:p]
Legal-Eagle Somethings just never change, I always get the blame when my mates over indulge. That is why a personal trainer is a modern girl's MUST HAVE.[:D] Actually, we are planning next years girls' holiday, I have just suggested Singapore (for the shopping value only) are you interested? Looking at around April-May. Then we can post our own photographs of this smelly place.[:)]
