Car safety in Macedonia? |
qwer1234 |
Hi,
I am a bulgarian student living in Spain since 10 years.
I am planning to drive this summer with my car (12 years old Opel Astra) to Bulgaria and from there for some days to Macedonia.
Unfortunately, in Bulgaria I have to "insure" my car (they put flashy stickers on the windows) in order to avoid the car to be stolen (especially in Sofia and the Black Sea Cost). (it is called "avtokasko" and cost about 90euros for 3 months).
I would be interested to know, if in Macedonia the situation is the same, and if it is the same which is the name (or phone number) of the "insurance" company?
Also, are "guarded" parkings safe in Macedonia? Because sometimes cars are also stolen from "guarded" parkings.
You can also answer me in macedonian, if you want.

Drive from Spain to Bulgaria??!?!
I believe it would be sensible to register, or at least tell the police in Macedonia of your car, just in case it does get stolen... |

In Macedonia, you do not need any type of special insurance if you are travelling through or visiting. Macedonia is generally safe for your vehicle, you can park it almost anywhere, especially during the day, and it is not likely to get stolen. No offense, but especially a 12 year old Opel Astra will not get stolen in Macedonia [:)] |

"Macedonia is generally safe for your vehicle, you can park it almost anywhere, especially during the day, and it is not likely to get stolen", yes but at night?
Is it safe to park on a "guarded" parking at night?
Yes, I know that I may seem a bit paranoid, but robberied from "guarded" parkings occur in Sofia, for example.

lol it's normal to be paranoid. If you want to be safe, just park it somewhere in a public place, i haven't heard of cars being stolen in Macedonia in guarded parkings... |

Probably the best place to park is in the city shopping center. It's actualy a garage parking underneath a shoping center.
No need to worry, this is not BUlgaria, trust me. |

qwer1234,
Macedonia does not have those issues. I would not be worried at all.
Bulgaria is notorious for stolen cars, it is surprising that the business has not crossed the border, but it ain;t the case. Anywhere you park, as long as it is not in a remote place (and left sitting for days) nothing will be missing from your vehicle.
