Pre - Phillip Macedonian cities for Russell |
Russell Foster |
Hey People,
I'm doing some research on the Ancient Macedonian Kingdom (really early phase)
Can anyone supply me with the names of the existing Macedonian cities before the campaigns of King Phillip?
I saw the name Virtual Macedonia so I figured this was the place to ask.
Any help would be really appreciated because I'm running into brick walls!!
Much oblige!!

Hey Dude,
Thanks for the attention. This is what I've managed far:
(Mostly from digging through archeology related web sites)I'm also an antiquities coin collector and that proved to be quite valuable.
Aigai (Vergina)7th - 6th century BC
Eoraia 6th century
Almopia 6th century (birth place of King Amyntas 1st of Macedon)
Mygdonia 5th-6th century?
Bottiaea older than time originally Thracian. The name comes from the ancient Thracian tribe called Bottiaeans who were expelled by the Macedonians.
PieriaStill looking for details.
P.S.I'm noticing a movement of the AncientMacedonians from the Northwestern tip of Ancient Macedonia (Epirotic Border)towards the South east as I go from one ancient city to another.Something is happening in around the 7th century BC which is either pulling or pushing them in that direction.Any Ideas?
All the cities I'm looking for are actually placed timewise in the "early kingdom" period.
Much Oblige. |
