| Kanal 5: Macedonia be Part of EU Parliament Probe | |
| BorisVM | Skopje. Macedonia will be part of the EU Parliament’s probe into secret CIA prisons in Europe. The Provisional Parliamentary Commission formed two days ago in Strasbourg will investigate the Masri case, Hans Sloboda has confirmed for Kanal 5. He is one of the 46 EU MPs who are members of that commission. The EU Mission in Macedonia has twice asked detailed information from the Ministry of Interior on the case with the German from Libyan origin who claimed that he was abducted by the Macedonian police and was kept imprisoned for 23 days. The Kanal 5 TV claimed that there might be consequences for Macedonia if it is confirmed that Masri has been abducted in the country and then given back to the CIA. Brussels warned that the process of enlargement for the countries who had helped CIA in transportation and hiding of prisoners could be frozen. Halil al Masri was arrested on 31 December 2003 on Tabanovce border checkpoint. He was questioned by the CIA and the secret security services of Macedonia and then was transported back to Afghanistan. He was released in May last year in Albania after it was discovered that his name was similar to that of an Al Qaeda member. |
