Wayne Rooney narrowly escaped serious injury yesterday after being involved in a motorway smash.
The Man Utd striker was driving to training with girlfriend Coleen McLoughlin at 9.30am when another car crashed into him. Rooney was apparently not to blame for the incident, which took place near major roadworks at Junction 7 of the M60 Manchester ring road.
"Rooney was in the car with Coleen in the passenger seat," a workman who was at the scene told the Sunday Mirror. "He and this other car were joining the motorway from slip roads. The other driver was on Rooney's left and should have stopped at a temporary give-way sign because of the road works.
"Rooney had right of way, but this other car just smashed straight into the side of the Range Rover. It made quite a mess of the passenger side.
"We couldn't believe it when Rooney and Coleen got out of the car. They were both lucky to be unharmed. He was talking with a few of the lads and having a laugh and a joke."
