We are pleased to announce that the first Macedonian Film Festival to be held in North America will take place on May 27 and 28, 2006 in Toronto, Canada. Over the course of these two days we will be screening a variety of Macedonian films of various genres including classic Macedonian films, contemporary feature films and documentaries, all with English subtitles. The films will be works of Macedonian filmmakers, both from Macedonia and the Diaspora. Select screenings will be followed by a question and answer period with a director from either Macedonia or Canada.
Our vision is to showcase the talents of Macedonian filmmakers from around the world and to serve as a forum for understanding Macedonians and their culture.
In 2003 the Macedonian community in Toronto had the privilege of attending a screening of Milcho Manchevski's movie Dust followed by a question and answer period by the director himself. It was certainly evident by the "sold out" status of this event that the Macedonian community is ready for its first film festival. The well-attended screenings of Sandra Danilovic's documentary Just Arrived in 2004 and Suzana Dinevski's prize winning film The Children of 1948 in 2005 further demonstrate the community's enthusiasm for Macedonian films.
