June through October is the hottest period, while rainfall is heaviest between December and March Mark Twain described Hawaii as 'the loveliest fleet of islands that lies anchored in any ocean'. The name alone conjures up images of exotic flowers, beautiful beaches and majestic mountains. Hawaii consists of a group of volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean with an area of 6,459 square miles, boasting an impressive array of active and inactive volcanoes including Haleakala, more than 10,000 feet high. Hawaii, the 50th and last state of the United States has many unique features which sets it apart from the other states both culturally and geographically. It is the only state that does not fall within the continent of North America, the only state composed entirely of islands, the only state not dominated by Americans of European ancestry and the only state with a royal palace. There are eight principal islands, each with their own unique feel. The state capital, Honolulu is on the main island of Oahu which is home to Hawaii’s number one attraction - Pearl Harbour. In Oahu, you will find the usual American city attractions, sophisticated shopping and a frenzied nightlife, but just an hours drive away you will find yourself within spectacular mountain ranges, lush green meadows and stunning beaches. Along with its beauty and diversity, Hawaii is famed for the friendliness of its locals, and the warm welcome extended to visitors. The minute you arrive, you are likely to be greeted by a garlanded beauty and at some point during your stay, you are bound to be tempted to wiggle your hips in a hula dance.
