Skopje, October 21 (MIA) - The 22nd International Skopje Jazz Festival will close on Tuesday with future jazz night by Erik Truffaz Group (France), Nils Petter Molvaer (Noway) and Beneventan Trio (Macedonia).
Erik Truffaz is a famous French trumpet player. It forms in 1991 Erik Truffaz Quartet with Patrick Muller with the piano, Marcello Giuliani with low and the double bass and Marc Erbetta with the battery and the percussions. Its first album Nina Valeria leaves in 1994. Eric Truffaz signs then for the label of jazz Blue Note. He records Out of first of all has dream then The dawn, album greeted by the public and criticism like one of the albums more innovating of the Nineties. The fourth album of Erik Truffaz left in year 2000 is entitled Bending news corners.
Nils Petter Molvaer was born in 1960 in Sula, a small island off the North-West coast of Norway. His father, a renowned jazz musician, introduced Molvaer to music at an early age. By the age of 13 he was playing in various pop and rock bands in local venues and dance halls. During this time he played a number of instruments - bass, drums, keyboards - before finally settling for the trumpet.
In 1979 Molvaer left Sula to study at Trondheim Conservatory of Music, where alongside his contemporaries he started to get noticed, and in 1981, after two years of studies, he dropped out and moved to Oslo to become a professional musician.
At this point, Molvaer had developed a distinct sound and style of playing and was much sought after by leading Norwegian groups and as a guest on other artists' records. Molvaer has eclectic musical influences who he names as Miles Davis, Don Cherry, Billie Holiday, Brian Eno, Joni Mitchell and Bill Laswell. His interest in both acoustic and electric music shows in the ease with which he handles the conventions of pop, rock and funk, alongside those of modern jazz. Molvaer and his group have played more than a hundred concerts throughout Europe and the US - including major European festivals.
The Jazz Festival was opened October 17 with the performance of Italian Pino Minafra Sud Ensemble and Enrico Rava Quintet, sponsored by the Macedonian Ministry of Culture. Henri Texier Trio (France) and David Murray Latin big band (USA/Cuba) performed on Saturday. Brazilian night was scheduled for Sunday with the performance of Chico Cesar and Joao Bosco e Grupo. Portugal stars Chritsina Branco and Maria Joao & Maria Laginha Quartet held concert on Monday.
