ace6vel Sacramento 130, Seattle 99 Kings Run Way Past Sonics SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 4 (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings enjoyed their most lopsided win of the season as Peja Stojakovic scored 24 points in a 130-99 romp over the Seattle SuperSonics. Stojakovic made six three-pointers for the Kings, who led virtually the entire game. Sacramento opened its biggest lead, 99-63, on two free throws by Brad Miller with 30 seconds left in the third quarter. The Kings posted a season high in points, eclipsing the 124 they scored against the Los Angeles Clippers on October 31. Sacramento's most one-sided win this season was a 116-90 triumph over Phoenix on December 23. "I was just real pleased with our team coming out the way they did against that team, a dangerous offensive team," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "We were really good at both ends of the court." Stojakovic made 6-of-10 three-pointers, one shy of a career high. Overall, he was 9-of-17 from the field. "If I was the opposing team, I would just let him shoot because he misses when he is open," Sacramento forward Darius Songaila said. "However, when there is a guy in his face, he makes the hardest shots ever. All teams can try and do to stop him is grab him." Bobby Jackson added 21 points for the Kings, who took control early, building a 63-43 halftime lead. They increased the margin to 99-65 after three quarters. "(Jackson) was terrific," Adelman said. "He came in the game and he was running the floor. He was all over. Just look at his line -- 21 points in 32 minutes, seven assists." Rashard Lewis scored 18 points and Reggie Evans had 16 for Seattle, which had a three-game winning streak snapped. "I didn't feel like we competed against this team," Sonics coach Nate McMillan said. "I thought we gave them a little much respect. That's a good team, but we didn't come out to play tonight." The Kings placed seven players in double figures, with Vlade Divac chipping in 16 points and Doug Christie and Lawrence Funderburke adding 14 apiece. "We had a great game tonight and we scored a lot of points," said point guard Mike Bibby, who had 13 points. "Our confidence is high anyways." The Kings shot 58 percent from the field (52-of-89), including 12-of-23 from three-point range. "They beat us on all fronts," Sonics guard Ray Allen said. "They played good defense. Offensively, they ran the floor and we didn't get back on defense."

ace6vel Sacramento 117, Denver 106 Scoreboard Gets Workout As Kings Edge Nuggets SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 11 (Ticker) -- Peja Stojakovic outdueled Andre Miller and lifted the Sacramento Kings to their 14th straight home win over the Denver Nuggets. Stojakovic scored 33 points to lead the Kings to their fourth consecutive victory at ARCO Arena, 117-106 over the Nuggets. "He's a scorer and he's a shooter," Miller said of Stojakovic. "And when a guy is 6-foot-9 and can shoot from the free-throw line and guys look to get him the ball, he's only going to get better." Miller finished with a season-high 30 points, but the Nuggets remained winless in Sacramento since Jan. 7, 1997. Sacramento placed six players in double figures as Mike Bibby added 18 points and Bobby Jackson had 16 off the bench. "Overall team effort, keeping them off the boards and playing great 'D' in the last few minutes of the game, rebounding and making shots," Jackson said. "And that sealed off the game." Rookie Carmelo Anthony collected 22 points and 12 rebounds while Nenк scored 20 points for Denver, which was denied a third straight win. After making a layup that increased the Kings' lead to 102-94 with 7:03 remaining, Brad Miller was ejected for yelling at a referee and finished with 14 points. Denver responded with a 6-2 spurt to cut the deficit to 104-100 with 5:22 left but got no closer. Stojakovic hit a 3-pointer with 56 seconds remaining to give Sacramento a 114-106 lead. "Peja hit a big shot and after that we had a couple of stops and got the rebounds that we needed to, and the game was ours," Bibby said. The game was the 200th consecutive sellout for Sacramento, the longest active streak in the NBA. "It's great playing here at ARCO," Kings forward Tony Massenburg said. "You know that the crowd is hear to support you, which is always great. You always have a sixth man." Sacramento led 57-50 at halftime and never trailed thereafter. The Nuggets squandered numerous opportunities to narrow the gap by making turnovers at critical moments. "One of the keys to this game for us was to eliminate bad turnovers," Denver coach Jeff Bzdelik said. "Sacramento just feasts on bad turnovers and turns those into points, and we had 21 turnovers that yield 33 points for Sacramento. That was a big key." The Kings converted a rare four-point play with 8:25 left in the third quarter to build a 67-57 lead. Nenк fouled Bibby while running through his pick in an attempt to close out on Stojakovic, who nailed a 3-pointer. Bibby added the free throw. The win was the 627th for Sacramento coach Rick Adelman, moving him past former Nuggets coach Doug Moe into 17th place on the all-time list.

ace6vel Seattle 104, Sacramento 93 Allen Paces Sonics Over Kings SEATTLE, Jan. 7 (Ticker) -- Ray Allen and the Seattle SuperSonics didn't have to wait long to get their revenge. Allen scored 22 points to lead a balanced attack as the SuperSonics avenged Sunday's loss to the Sacramento Kings with a 104-93 victory, their seventh win in the last nine games. On Sunday in Sacramento, Seattle absorbed a 130-99 beating, its worst loss of the season. Allen had a particularly rough game, making just 4-of-12 shots for eight points, nearly 17 below his average. Allen regained his stroke with 42 points in Monday's win over Portland and kept it in this one, making 9-of-17 shots while adding nine assists and seven rebounds. "The game down in their building was a little eye-opening," Allen said. "I thought I was playing too much with the ball. ... I needed to pass the ball a lot more and let some other guys do some things. I had to pick and choose my times, and tonight I definitely had to remember that." "I didn't think he'd have eight points tonight," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "I didn't think it was gonna be the same game as Sunday." Vladimir Radmanovic had five 3-pointers and 21 points and Antonio Daniels added a season-high 19 off the bench for the SuperSonics, who held the high-scoring Kings under 38 percent (32-of-85) from the field. "Radmanovic, in the last two games, has really found his stroke," Sonics coach Nate McMillan said. "I thought Antonio Daniels had a solid effort again off the bench. We needed to play well on the defensive end and we did." "We went down to Sacramento and basically laid an egg," Daniels said. "We are a much better team than what we showed down there and tonight we proved that." Peja Stojakovic and Mike Bibby scored 19 points apiece for the Kings, who had a four-game winning streak snapped. Bad weather in the Pacific Northwest delayed their flight and they did not arrive in Seattle until Wednesday afternoon. "You can't use that as an excuse. It happens," Stojakovic said. "I knew about it, but our game plan was the same," McMillan said. "We didn't want a run-and-gun game." Allen scored 10 points in a 22-11 surge that gave the Sonics a 61-50 lead in the last minute of the first half. The Kings got no closer than eight points thereafter, as consecutive baskets by Ronald Murray repelled a run in the third quarter and Allen's 3-pointer widened the lead to 90-76 in the final period. ace6vel Sacramento 113, Phoenix 93 Stojakovic, Kings Fight Off Suns PHOENIX, Jan. 9 (Ticker) -- As soon as the public address announcer said, "We're back in the game!" the Phoenix Suns were out of the game, courtesy of Peja Stojakovic. Stojakovic scored 22 of his 29 points in the second half as the Sacramento Kings dealt the Suns their fifth straight loss, 113-93. Sacramento spoiled the return of Phoenix forwards Amarй Stoudemire and rookie Zarko Cabarkapa, both of whom had missed more than a month with injuries. A 3-pointer by Stojakovic gave the Kings a 91-71 lead early in the fourth quarter. After the Suns rallied within 100-90 on a basket by Shawn Marion with 6:22 left, the PA announcer made his proclamation. "That type of thing could pump the other team if they heard it, but it helps us, too," said Marion, who made just 4-of-17 shots. Sacramento responded with an 11-0 burst highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers by Stojakovic, who was 12-of-23 from the field, including 5-of-10 from the arc. Mike Bibby's basket capped the burst at 111-90 with 1:46 to go. "We were in the huddle and I heard it, but we didn't even think about it," said Stojakovic, who also had 12 rebounds. "We don't care what the announcer says, we just focus on the game. That might have made us focus a bit more, because we got kind of careless. But on that run after that, we just became more aggressive." "I heard them say something," Kings guard Bobby Jackson said. "I didn't know what, but I heard the fans react. But we came back because we have a great team. We started to cut and move the ball." Bibby scored 25 points and Jackson added a season-high 24 off the bench for the Western Conference-leading Kings, who have won five of their last six games. Stoudemire, the 2003 Rookie of the Year who missed 18 games with a sprained ankle, scored 10 points in 19 minutes off the bench. Cabarkapa, who missed 22 games with a fractured wrist, did not score in 12 minutes off the bench. "I felt pretty good out there, just a little sore," Stoudemire said. "It felt good while I was playing, but when I sat down, it started throbbing." It also was the first home game for Antonio McDyess and Howard Eisley, acquired Monday in the eight-player deal that sent All-Star point guard Stephon Marbury to New York. McDyess started but scored just three points in 16 minutes. Eisley came off the bench to score 14 points. "We struggled, obviously," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "It's not going to be easy. We just have to take it one step at a time." "We didn't know what to expect from them," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "We hadn't seen their point guard before. We knew they were going to play hard; we just wanted to keep putting pressure on them and keep coming at them because they hadn't played together that long." Stojakovic scored nine points in the third quarter to help build a seven-point halftime lead to 88-71 entering the final period.
ace6vel Kings.com: You seem to come into ARCO Arena with a different throwback jersey every time. How many jerseys do you have? Jackson: "To be honest, I don’t even know. But I would say I have over 100. Mostly football and baseball. I don’t wear basketball jerseys because I don’t want to wear another team’s jersey." Kings.com: Do you watch reality shows on TV? Jackson: " Oh yeah. I love reality shows. I was just watching Average Joe Hawaii the other night. That was hilarious. It’s real life people with no acting. And it’s straight from the heart. What they say and what they do is what they really mean. That’s why I like reality shows. " Kings.com: Who are the top three best dressers on the team? Jackson: " Me … (pauses) … Dougie, and I would probably say Peja. " Kings.com: In that particular order? Jackson: "Yeah." *** Coincidentally, Peja Stojakovic walked into the room with a ‘fashion faux pas’ – having on brown shoes with a black sweater and black leather jacket. “You need some black shoes with that and you’ll be alright,” Jackson told Stojakovic. “You have on a black top. Don’t wear brown shoes. Black, man. Come on. Stop doing that. It doesn’t match. You need to put on some black Air Force Ones on or something.” *** Kings.com: What is the worst job you ever had growing up? Jackson: "Working at a hospital. I was a reception. It was a summer job when I was in college. I was a sports medicine major. They had me doing reception work at the hospital. So, it was something I had to do." Kings.com: What is the first car you’ve ever owned? Jackson: "A 1997 Nissan Maxima. When I was coming out (into the league), I didn’t know if I was going to be a first-round pick. So, I decided to get something I could afford at the time. So, that wound up being my first car. "
ace6vel Sacramento 103, L.A. Lakers 83 Big Third Quarter Powers Kings SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 16 (Ticker) -- Minus three future Hall of Famers, the Los Angeles Lakers were no match for Peja Stojakovic, Mike Bibby and the Sacramento Kings. Stojakovic scored 11 of his 23 points and Bibby eight of his 21 in the decisive third quarter as the Kings rolled to a 103-83 triumph over the undermanned Lakers in the first meeting of the season between the Pacific Division rivals. Bobby Jackson scored 15 points, Doug Christie added 12 and Vlade Divac chipped in 11, seven assists and six rebounds for the Kings, who improved their league-best home record to 21-2. Sacramento has won its last six games at ARCO Arena. Los Angeles was missing injured stars Shaquille O'Neal, Karl Malone and Kobe Bryant but trailed by only four points late in the first half. After scoring the opening points of the third quarter to pull within 47-40, the Lakers allowed the Kings to embark on a 17-0 run, which ended on a 3-pointer by Stojakovic with 7:11 remaining. "I believe we were more relaxed, we figured out that with patience and going to our big guys, we could get really good opportunties on the offensive end," Stojakovic said. "Vlade kind of opened up for us, he scored a couple of times, and then we started shooting from the outside. Also defensively, we stopped their easy shots and made them work for their shots." "We were kinda relaxed and they came at us in the first half," Bibby said. "Then we just jumped on them and went at it at our pace in the second half. We came out in the third quarter and were making our shots." Sacramento, which has been without injured All-Star Chris Webber all season, opened an 82-55 cushion after three quarters and rested Stojakovic and Bibby for the final 12 minutes. "Just a solid win," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "(In the) third quarter, we really got active defensively and got our hands on a lot of balls, and our energy really picked up and we put it away." Kareem Rush scored a career-high 30 points and Gary Payton added 16 for the Lakers, who shot 41 percent (35-of-85) as they dropped their seventh consecutive road game. The Kings connected on 55 percent (39-of-71). "I think we came out and played really well in the first half," Rush said. "We came out in the second half thinking we were still in the game and scored the first basket, but then they put us away." "We did OK," Payton said. "That's a good team. And (when) we get all our guys back, we'll be a good team, too." Sacramento, which never trailed, had 29 assists and committed just 13 turnovers. "You want your team to perform well enough to compete in the ballgame," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "That's the one thing we wanted to be able to do. We put some pressure on them so it would be a competitive game. But we got that blown out of the water."
ace6vel Sacramento 125, L.A. Clippers 1000 Kings Share and Share a Lot LOS ANGELES, Jan. 19 (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings' ability to share is scary. Sacramento recorded assists on 38 of 49 baskets and got 31 points in three quarters from Peja Stojakovic en route to a 125-100 blowout of the Los Angeles Clippers. The Kings posted a season-high assist total in extending their winning streak to five games and improving the NBA's best record to 29-9. Despite playing the entire season without injured All-Star forward Chris Webber, they are 25-5 since a 4-4 start. "This team is playing at a higher level than any of the teams we have had here in recent memory, and today was a perfect example why," said Kings coach Rick Adelman, whose team was a win away from the 2002 NBA Finals. Sacramento's success can be credited to the best offense in the league. The Kings began the day first in points (105.1), field-goal percentage (47.5), 3-point percentage (39.6) and assists (26.95) per contest. It was the Kings' unselfishness that put away the Clippers early. They assisted on 10 of their first 11 baskets, including four straight during a 13-0 run that opened a 29-17 cushion with 2:13 left in the first quarter. "I don't know if we can play better offensively than we did," Adelman said. "You certainly don't get much better effort than we had in the first half with 23 assists. It was fun to watch a game like that." Sacramento led by at least 10 points over the final 38Ѕ minutes and by as many as 33 in the third period. "It's tough to beat the best team in the NBA when they shoot like that," Clippers guard Quentin Richardson said. Six Kings had at least four assists, with Vlade Divac and Doug Christie recording eight apiece. Stojakovic, Mike Bibby and reserve guard Anthony Peeler each had five, one more than Brad Miller. "Offensively, we really moved the ball and got open looks," Stojakovic said. Sixth man Bobby Jackson chipped in 19 points for the Kings, who shot 56 percent (49-of-87) from the field, including 10-of-17 from the arc. Stojakovic, who is third in the NBA in scoring, made 9-of-14 shots -- 5-of-7 from 3-point range -- and all eight of his free-throw attempts, then received high praise from his coach. "There are a lot of people I have seen that shoot the ball pretty well, but none shoot it better than Peja," Adelman said. While the Kings have the NBA's most prolific offense, Los Angeles came in 26th in scoring defense at 97.6 points per game before yielding a season-worst 125. "I think it was a little bit of both," said Richardson, who scored 18 points. Elton Brand had 24 points for the Clippers, who have lost three straight games and are just 6-11 since a four-game winning streak. This was their most decisive setback this season. "I want them to remember this game," coach Mike Dunleavy said. "I want them to have pride and step up. I want them to be embarrassed by the outcome of this game and then step up and play well the next game." The Kings took a 37-23 advantage into the second quarter and a 71-54 cushion into intermission before making it a laugher.
ace6vel Sacramento 95, Cleveland 89 Stojakovic Shoots Kings Past Cavaliers Box Score | Cavaliers Home | Kings Home CLEVELAND, Jan. 22 (Ticker) -- Peja Stojakovic showed the Cleveland Cavaliers why he's one of the NBA's best shooters. Stojakovic caught fire in the second half, when he scored 27 of his 37 points, as the Sacramento Kings opened a six-game road trip with a 95-89 victory over the Cavaliers. After netting 10 points in the first quarter and going scoreless in the second, Stojakovic was a different player in the second half. The sharpshooter poured in 20 points in third quarter, making 7-of-9 shots and all four of his 3-point attempts. Stojakovic finished 13-of-25 from the field, including 6-of-9 from the arc, as he fell four points shy of matching a season high. He also had 10 rebounds in 45 minutes. Vlade Divac collected 13 points, nine rebounds and nine assists for the Kings, who won for the 10th time in 12 games. Dajuan Wagner netted a season-high 20 points for Cleveland, which played its second straight game without injured rookie LeBron James.

ace6vel Includes games played through March 8, 2004 The NBA.com Power Rankings Chris Webber and the Sacramento Kings silenced the doubters who questioned how the team would deal with the All-Star forward's return -- they won three of four to maintain their hold on the top spot in the rankings for the second straight week. Meanwhile, the Indiana Pacers welcomed back Ron Artest, and with their current five-game win streak, they slide up a spot to No. 2. High jump of the week: Toronto (+5) Free fall of the week: Seattle (-6) TEAM (LAST WK) REC. BREAKDOWN 1 Sacramento (1) 46-16 His first NBA action since last year's playoffs and C-Webb goes for 24.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg and 5.7 apg over three games. Meanwhile, Brad Miller's move to bench gives Kings an All-Star sixth man. 2 Indiana (3) 47-16 In other comeback news, Ron Artest returned ahead of schedule to post 15.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 4.5 apg as the Pacers went 4-0 last week - all on the road - running their win streak to five. 3 San Antonio (5) 42-21 Still more comebacks: Duncan's due to play tonight, but his five-game absence was a surprise blessing for the Spurs - Rasho stepped up big, averaging 17.0 ppg, 12.4 rpg and 3.40 bpg. 4 Minnesota (2) 44-19 After Wolves' third loss in four games - to the mediocre Celts - Kandi said it all: "We should have gone out and beaten up on this team if we're talking about contending for a championship." 5 L.A. Lakers (6) 41-22 Revolving roster continues in L.A.: With a 3-1 week, Lakers tenuously leapfrogged Dallas for fourth, but Kobe went down with a strained shoulder that could sideline him for several games. 6 Dallas (5) 40-23 Doomed six-game win streak with inability to win on road - Mavs dropped three straight at Wolves, Spurs and Rockets, allowing 111.7 ppg as even low-scoring Houston topped triple digits. 7 Memphis (8) 39-24 Surging Grizz continued to impress, sweeping a four-game road trip to run their record to 14-3 since Feb. 1. Observed a pleased Hubie, "Every one of the games were decided by our defense." 8 Detroit (10) 41-25 Portland, 68; Denver, 66; Seattle, 65. And thus Detroit became first team since shot clock's debut in 1954 to hold three straight teams under 70. Said Larry Brown, "This is mind-boggling." 9 Houston (9) 36-26 Yao's playing better than ever, and if Rockets could only have held fourth-quarter lead against Lakers, they'd have posted their best week this year, as they went on to thump Wolves and Mavs. 10 New Jersey (7) 38-24 With a pair of losses to the Lakers on consecutive Sundays, Nets must be having bad flashbacks of 2002 Finals. Worse, J-Kidd sat out all last week with a bruised knee. 11 Utah (11) 32-32 With slumping Denver on verge of falling out of eighth spot, Jazz no-names are poised for run at a playoff berth - they'll have to do it on the road, where they play five of their next six. 12 Milwaukee (12) 33-30 Bucks will need to tighten up the defense if they want to displace the Hornets for that all-important No. 4 seed - they've allowed 100-plus in 12 games of 16 since Feb. 1. 13 Denver (13) 33-31 Nugs have lost eight of nine, and against Detroit became the first team since 1950 without a player to score 10 points. "Plain and simple, they kicked our butts," understated Coach Bzdelik. 14 New Orleans (15) 33-30 Enigmatic Hornets continue to struggle, needing OT to beat Chicago before falling to Cavs and Raptors. Still, if playoffs began today, they'd hold homecourt advantage in first round. 15 Cleveland (19) 28-36 With their starters logging heavy minutes, eighth-place Cavaliers have won four straight and eight of 10, but will LeBron, Boozer and Z. wear down before the playoffs even begin? 16 Miami (20) 27-36 The buzzsaw that is Lamar Odom (22.8 ppg, 11.8 rpg, 6.3 rpg over last four) powered the Heat to wins over Bucks and Kings, pulling team within a half-game of a playoff spot. 17 Portland (14) 30-33 Once-promising Blazers have dropped five of six, and sadly, Zach Randolph conjured bad memories for fans, suspended for throwing punches during a brouhaha with Utah. 18 New York (21) 29-35 Knicks took advantage of matchups with 76ers, Raptors and Wizards to post a 3-0 week, halting six-game slide and holding off Celts, Cavs and Heat for No. 7 seed. 19 Boston (23) 28-36 Winning streak didn't look legit until Sunday when Celts topped Wolves on the road. Now they've taken five straight, with Pierce getting help from players like Welsch, Atkins and Mihm. 20 L.A. Clippers (17) 26-36 Just 2-6 over their last eight, Clips have been buried by a difficult schedule that doesn't get easier this week, with Rockets, Spurs and Grizzlies all on the road. 21 Philadelphia (22) 26-38 See him while he's hot: Sixers have won two in a row for the first time since Jan. 9, keyed by ... Zendon Hamilton? Little-used center exploded for 17.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg in victories. 22 Seattle (16) 27-36 A humbling 5-16 since Jan. 24, Sonics are all but assured of missing the 40-victory mark for the first time since 1986-87, a year they won just 39 yet still advanced to the conference finals. 23 Golden State (18) 25-36 Not your prototypical point guard, 6-9 Mike Dunleavy took over for the injured Van Exel and Claxton and posted 19.0 ppg and 10.7 rpg in his last three. Still, Warriors have lost five in a row. 24 Toronto (29) 27-36 Big differ-Vince: Carter returned last week to boost the Raptors to two wins - their first since Feb. 10 - and deliver them from their one-week residency in the rankings cellar. 25 Phoenix (24) 21-43 Suns got a brief taste of victory, taking three of four before losing consecutive games to Spurs and Mavs. Stoudemire scored 19 on Monday, the first time in 12 games he fell short of 20. 26 Washington (25) 20-41 Just 1-2 last week, but suddenly Gilbert Arenas and Juan Dixon are a potent offensive backcourt, combining for 48.0 ppg in Washington's last two games. 27 Orlando (28) 18-47 Magic still hold the worst record in the league, but they might take small solace in the fact that they schooled (that's a relative measure) Atlanta twice in four games. 28 Atlanta (26) 20-43 After their unlikely one-point win over the Lakers, Hawks lost three straight to Cleveland (twice) and Orlando. Meanwhile, Joel Przybilla has double-figure rebounds in five of his last six. 29 Chicago (27) 18-44 Just two games for the Bulls last week - versus Hornets and 76ers - and they dropped them both. Not good tidings for upcoming matchups with Pistons, Nets and Lakers.

ace6vel Phoenix 101, Sacramento 96 Suns Shine, Shock Kings PHOENIX, April 9 (Ticker) -- It has been a bad couple of days for Peja Stojakovic and the Sacramento Kings. Stojakovic badly misfired on a potential tying 3-pointer with three seconds left as the Kings lost to the Western Conference-worst Phoenix Suns, 101-96. The defeat came one night after the Kings (54-25) lost the Western Conference lead with a 94-86 home loss to Minnesota. The Kings, who fell 1 1/2 games behind the Timberwolves (56-24), slipped into a three-way tie with San Antonio and the Los Angeles Lakers, whom they host on Sunday for the Pacific Division lead. "It's a tough loss and you just have to deal with it," said Kings forward Chris Webber, who scored 15 points on 5-of-18 shooting. "They made some big shots tonight. You've got to give them credit. There's a lot on every game, so we just have to win and try to sew up the season the best we can." The Kings have lost six of their last nine games and slipped to 10-10 this season with Webber in the lineup. Sacramento rallied from an 18-point deficit early in the third quarter to take an 81-79 lead on a 3-pointer by Stojakovic with 9:51 remaining. But Phoenix's Joe Johnson nailed three shots from the arc to help open an 89-83 lead with six minutes to play. "Joe came in at the fourth and knocked down a few 3-pointers in a row and that kind of gave us the momentum to finish this game off strong," said Suns forward Amare Stoudemire, who had 23 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson had 24 points in 45 minutes. He has played at least 40 minutes in 32 consecutive contests, the longest streak since Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain did so in 34 straight games from March 22-Dec. 22, 1970. The Suns built a 97-89 cushion on a 3-pointer by rookie Leandro Barbosa with 2:20 left before the Kings stormed back, pulling within 97-96 on a reverse layup by Stojakovic with 11 seconds remaining. Phoenix's Shawn Marion sank two free throws with 10 seconds to go to make it 99-96, and Sacramento - out of timeouts - raced upcourt. The ball went to Stojakovic in the left corner, but with Marion in his face, his shot hit high off the left side of the backboard. "We got ourselves in a big hole and it's tough to come back when you're down that far," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "You spend a lot of energy coming back, but they had the answers. The Suns gave a great effort tonight." Johnson grabbed the rebound, was fouled with 1.3 seconds left and made a pair of free throws to ice it. "(The Suns) played great. It doesn't matter to them," said Kings center Vlade Divac, who had 16 points. "It's that time of the year when they don't have anything to play for. They came through and they played hard, and we are totally the opposite. We have something to play for and we didn't play well." "We didn't roll over to a team that is destined for the playoffs," said Marion, who had 20 points and nine rebounds. "We came out and played them tough and got a win. We are a young team and we are learning. We plan to close the season off strong and bring our confidence into next year with all that we have learned this year."
