Malecok you are so right what am I doing in Canada when I could be living in a country that is filled with ethnic hatred, I would love to raise my family up in that kind of enviroment. You forgot to mention also how the standard of living is way below the standard of living in N.America, and you forgot to mention how the politicians are corrupt and rob their citizens of millions and millions of dollars. I see you also forgot to mention that it was a country that was on the brink of war. Just imagine living in a place like that where people yell at you if you go to through out garbage into a container on the street for fear there might be a bomb in it. The basic health care you forgot to mention, it is so much worse there that is also great. You also forgot that people have to wait months to get paid from there employers that is great also. You know what I changed my mind I think I would like to live in the land of OZ instead of Macedonia.
What is wrong with you people, say you like Macedonia just because it is where you are born but don't say it is better than the Canada and the US because we all know it is not and that is a fact. You can't compare the countries they are so different from each other. IF you are loyal to Macedonia then be loyal to Macedonia for it is your birth country and everyone that is born and raised in a country should be loyal to that country.
Malecok I don't think I am Canadian I KNOW I am Canadian. I have no other birth certificate or passport, the only ones I have are Canadian.
I would also like to point out that I did not make these forums for Macedonian Canadians, Macedonian Americans, Macedonian Australians these forums where made by some one else

I don't know where you guys live, but when I was seventeen(and for that mater now), I was picking up girls left and right. It must be with the people you hang out, because brother I have always been interested in girls, I could care less what kind of car you drive, for I don't know nothing about cars and engines, all I know is how to drive one. As for Murders don't tell me it doesn't happen in Macedonia. Was not a 6 year old kid murdered there just the other day buy his neighbour, did not a police officer( off duty) kill someone in a cafe the other month, Was not a kid abused so badly by his parents that they locked him up in the pig pen to sleep for days at a time in a selo near skopje the other day. As you say people have guns here left and right, that is laughable Myself and my friends have never owned a gun for that mater I don't know of anyone who has, I don't deny there are people that own guns here but realize that they are gang bangers and are in the illegal drug trades, it is the same in Europe. In Macedonia everyone I met had either A hand gun or a Machine gun that was my age( I understand that might have to do with the situation that is there right now but there is no need for guns if you are not in the army or police force.) I don't deny that crimes don't happen in Canada but not how you state them. I am saying crimes happen all over the world. Malecok if you go out in the summer time here you will have fun, maybe it is the group of friends you hang out with. Try hanging out with non Macedonians and you will see how much fun you have. I understand that it is probally hard for you to make such friends considering the language barrier, but if you only have friends that are in the same boat with you and do not know the language well it is going to be difficult and that is no fault of your own, it is just the way it is. It is also true that there is not much to do over here in the way of going out for 14 to 18 year olds but that is the law here and you have to be of age to enter clubs. When I was your age there was always house parties, bush partied and a bunch of other stuff where we could party. Is there not after hours where you live, go to them they don't card people. As for you saying that there is going to be a war here in Canada between us and the Mulsims, that is just a hypothetical theory on your part, If and only If it does happen that is when I will worry about it, but up until then I believe this is the best country in the world, true I may be bias but I was born here and I have travelled and have not seen better so far. I do not blame you for loving Macedonia it is your country and I would hate it if someone took me out of Canada at your age( you are around 15-17 years of age?) to go live in some other country. I understood mostly everything you wrote except this:
"Topikov na ova Strana e "Macedonians in Canada" a ti ako si Canadian in Canada, so mausot gore na iksot." , I follow that the topic is for Macedonians in Canada and you say if you are a Canadian in Canada and I don't understand the rest of it. I am a Canadian in Canada with Macedonian heritage I want to remember that I have never denied my heritage. what does "so mausot gore na iskot" mean? I have no clue.

Canada, The World's
Best Country To Live In
For the sixth year in a row, Canada ranks first among 175 countries in the United Nation's quality of life survey. The Human Development Index (HDI) examines the health, education and wealth of each nation's citizens by measuring:
life expectancy;
educational achievement -- adult literacy plus combined primary, secondary and tertiary enrolment; and
standard of living -- real GDP per capita based on PPP exchange rates.
The UN also computes a Gender-Related Development Index that extends the HDI to take into account gender differences in the ranking criteria. Canada was ranked 1st in this regard in 1997, up from 2nd in 1996.
Canada has the best educated people and the highest literacy rate in the world. Canadians live longer than anyone on the planet, except people in Japan and Iceland.
In a similar vein, the Geneva-based Corporate Resources Group compares more that one hundred major international cities in their annual 'quality of life' survey. Rankings are compiled by using 42 factors covering political and economic stability, crime, pollution, health, environment, education, infrastructure and leisure facilities.
In the 1996 survey, Geneva placed first, but Canadian cities were well represented. In particular, the five Canadian cities surveyed all placed in the top 13: Vancouver (2), Toronto (4), Ottawa (6), Montreal (8), Calgary (13).

Thunder at the weddings where the couple are tetovcani ( or one of the wedding party is a tetovcanec/tetovchanka ) there is Serbian Music, at weddings that are southern macedonian there is rarely and I mean very rarely any serbian songs. Thunder by the way there have been fights at weddings over music and other stuff here.
Legal I have to disagree with you on the serbian music being po veselo, I think serbian music sucks to tell you the truth. They have no heart or soul into there music, come on now when you hear the gajda and the tapani you get goosebumps. I personally think that Macedonian Music is by far the best out of the balkans.
O'CANADA |
Legal-Eagle |
Do i get goosebumps from the gajda and tapani ..... NO I DO NOT .... i get a headache ...that is exactly what i mean by SELO NASE VESELO!!!
How can you say that the serbian music is NOT veselo, first of all listen to the words, it is so more expressive than the macedonian, and listen to the music, it is so much more advanced.
Most macedonian songs are about some ofcar and his tele or some devojka going to the bunar po voda, ili za goce delcev, or some guy singing dosta vreme ergen odev, ili ozheni me mamo zhenet da odam, or even, shto imala kzmet stamena, majka i bolna legnala, really primitive, though there are a few macedonian songs that i like, but the music has been KNOCKED OFF from either Lebanon, Turkey, Bulgaria, and even Greece! We did mention in another forum that a persons taste of music says a lot about them
You are all, Hic, entitled to MY, Hic, opinion! |
Canmak |
I am not denying that Macedonian Music is not influenced by turkish styles, that is what happens when your are under someones influence for 500 years, but I have gone to many Serb functions with my Serbian Friends and there songs are total ripoffs, have you ever heard there Nationalistic songs, Such as "Gjurgov den- which is a roma (gypsy) song, and Shar planina- which is a Macedonian song. If you like zabavni pesni that is what the serbs have but nothing that ever touches you in the heart, look at for instance the starskoto za ramo, or Zajde Zajde jasno sonse, even biser balkanski. If you listen to Macedonian music you will realize that Macedonian music is much more complex than the serbian music in that in a lot of Macedonian songs we have over lying beats and multiple instruments, not just drums, bass guitar, accordian and a brass horn of some sort. When you here Macedonian Music you can clearly tell from where it is from, not serbian music though .....you can not tell serbian music from croatian or bosnian, so what is Serbian Music............it is a rip off of all its neighbours.
O'CANADA |
Canmak |
I forgot to mention that Macedonian Music is totally respected world wide with the sound that it has such as the gajda or the flutes used in it, it might have some influences from the regions you mention but I wouldn't say that they are rip-offs. Macedonian music has evolved into its own style.
O'CANADA |

Legal when I watch people dance to those songs, I get goose bumps. You see people dancing with pride and honor of there heritage or of there country, so yes I do like those songs. I have never seen emotions run through the serbs, croats, or greeks like the emotions that run through Macedonians dancing to there Nationalistic songs, That is what songs are supposed to do, touch you somewhere and the dancing is your way of expressing your self. Besides just look at the pig dance at our weddings, I have never seen anyone else do that from the Balkans, it starts the festivities of the wedding, it sets the mood for the night. One thing I did notice is that the serbs love the fast dances and they are fun i must agree, but we also have the fast dances but we as a culture I feel decide to dance to the more expressive songs , when the clarinet player or the drums come out on the dance floor there is nothing like that.

Maybe one day, i will find it in my heart to feel "macedonian" but up until this point there are so many underlying issues ... namely the macedonian ppl themselves .... like i said .....maybe one day
And to settle the music debate ......LEBANESE & TURKISH music ROCKS

I'm not an autoworker or a
casino dealer nor do I belong to the CAW.
I'm not a biker, and I don't drive a minivan
... well maybe my parents still do.
I've never met Yvette, Claudine, Cecile or Marie-France
from Montreal,
but I'm sure they are very nice strippers.
I have never set foot in a bingo hall, or swam at Sand

Bob-Lo did exist at one time,
and yes it was far better than DisneyLand.
I am bilingual - I speak both Fahrenheit and Metric.
Ouellette is pronounced "Oh-let Avenue", not "Woo-let".
Okay?
And it's "Peery", not Pierre.
"Out West" means LaSalle,
and "Down East" means FOREST GLADE ....

and I'll walk the streets of downtown Detroit without fear.
I believe in partying, not politics...
that golf and hockey should be our national sports...
that driving is a right, not a privilege
and that air conditioning is a matter of life and death.
I believe that city council is Mike Hearst's puppet...
that we paid way too much

that feeding geese at Jack

AGREEMENT ON PARTNERSHIP PARTICIPATION OF CANADA POST IN MACEDONIA POST
Skopje, July 10 (MIA) - Macedonian Minister of Transport and Communications Ljupco Balkoski and Vice President of "Canada Post" Robert Chretien signed Wednesday in Skopje an Agreement on joint project for partnership participation of "Canada Post" and "Macedonia Post." According to the agreement, new postal operator will be established, which will be operational in the next 20 years.
"The agreement, which will be realized in three stages by 2022, will contribute for better and more efficient results and new postal services, as well as for more efficient financial operations of 'Macedonia Post," Minister Balkoski said after the signing of the Agreement.
He informed that the first stage from September 1 to December 31 would focus on financial analyses of the former operations and an investment plan for the next year would be developed. In the second stage, in the course of 2003 the postal technology that should be applied will be determined, the postal services will be defined, the employees will undergo training and joint local postal operator will be established.
"The 20-year period of current operations will begin with the third stage, with the technological implementation and the execution of the business and investment plan. The volume of postal operations will increase and the standard of the postal services will improve," Balksoki said.
According to the agreement, despite the constant over-employment in "Macedonia Post" there will be no dismissals. The employees will be employed in the new domestic postal operator and in the future they will work according to the new organizational setup of the post.
"Canada Post" will pay five percent of the realized profit between 2004-2007, ten percent between 2008 - 2012 and thirty-two percent between 2013 - 2022, which will be allocated to the Macedonian Budget.
The local post operator, according to the Agreement is obliged to invest around € 40 million in "Macedonia Post."
Balkovski explained that the model and the way of functioning of the new postal operator would be determined in 2003, adding that the Macedonian Government would appoint the director of "Macedonia Post" by 2004.
"With the Agreement, a new era for 'Macedonia Post' will begin, by improving the postal services, increasing the standards and the professionalism of the employees. Macedonia will become an operational center for postal services on the Balkans," Minister Balkovski said.
Answering to a journalist question, Balkovski said that the prices might increase depending on the financial analyses. However, the rise will be in compliance to the Law on Postal Services.
The Agreement was signed after two-year negotiations between the Macedonian Ministry of Transport and Communications and the management of "Canada Post," and after two memorandums on cooperation were signed in Skopje and Ottawa.
"Canada Post" has implemented more than 130 successful projects in 55 countries by offering consultant services, providing solutions for contemporary postal technology and transformation of posts.

Hey! I was not going to write anything but I just couldn't resist. I was born in Canada and I do admit it is a beautiful country but I do say I am Macedonian when someone asks me what I am. I feel Canmak you have no appreciation to have a Macedonian background. All you do is bash Macedonia in and complain about what's wrong there, when you should be helping and focusing on what's beautiful in Macedonia. You're probably embarrased to even say you have Macedonian in you. I don't know about anyone else but I'm proud to say I'm Macedonian, a country that is beautiful and don't forget has a strong history behind it. When you bash Macedonia you are also disrespecting all the Macedonians including your relatives that live there. I'm glad to be born in a great country like Canada but I'm even more luckier to have Macedonian blood in me as well! So pls think twice before you disrespect Macedonia again. It's a small country that's trying to make it work!

I know America likes to consider themselves a Melting Pot, but they really are not. I have seen how people of different ethnic and racial backgrounds are treated and let me tell you it is not pretty. There is a lot of discrimination. My parents were treated bad also. When I was a kid I can't remember how many times I heard my "fellow Americans" tell my parents "Go back to your country you stupid foreigner." I am lucky that my parents taught me to respect other people no matter where they come from.
I agree with you Lapotica when you say that you could never live in Macedonia, I also feel the same way. I was born and raised in America and I am proud to be Macedonian-American. I like going to Macedonia and seeing the birth place of my parents, my relatives, and the natural beauty Macedonia has, but never to live there.

Hello my virtual canadians,
I just wanna say that living in a multicultural country has got to be the best thing that could have happened to all of us.
I have been born and raised in Australia, because of that I have experienced the wonderful different cultures around me through friends, school, work and just life in general.
I beleive that living side by side with ppl from different backgrounds and cultures, has broadened my way of life, the way we think, and has made me much more tolerant and acceptable to change and things that are different.
I am very proud to be Macedonian and love the culture we have, but I wouldnt be able to live there. Living in a western country hasnt changed who we are, I couldnt be more maco if I tried.

Sonce, I have never denied my heritage......but that doesn't mean I view myself as a Macedonian......I have said this on these forums 1000 times and I will say it once more.....I am Canadian (sound like the molson commercial) but my heritage is Macedonian......I am not Macedonian Canadian.......born and raised in Canada and will choose Canada over any place in the world even including Macedonia.......Sure I have family there but my life is here.....and that to me is more important then some cousins in Macedonia, As for you saying that I bash Macedonia......I only speak the truth and I guess some can't take it. Don't get me wrong I am not anti-macedonian I am proud of my heritage and I speak the language and such but I feel more Canadian then Macedonian because I am Canadian.
Why is it that when people have a stronger tie to their birth country that some feel that they are traitors, or bash the land of the ancestors........to me that is ridicules to claim you are something else before the country you live in, were born in, and will eventually die in and if you do you are nothing but a sell-out in my eyes.......You have the benefits of country "A" but have alligience to country "B" that is worng and that to me makes no sense.
Be proud of what you are that is what I always have been......proud to be Canadian with Macedonian heritage

AND GOD CREATED CANADA. . .
Once upon a time, in the Kingdom of Heaven, God went missing for six days. Eventually, Michael the Archangel found him on the seventh day, resting. He inquired of God, “Where have you been?”
God sighed a deep sigh of satisfaction and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds. “Look Michael, look what I’ve made.”
Archangel Michael looked puzzled and said, “What is it?”
“It’s a planet,” replied God, “and I’ve put LIFE on it. I’m going to call it EARTH and it’s going to be a great place of balance.”
“Balance?” asked Michael, still confused.
God began to explain, pointing to different parts of EARTH. “For example, Northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, while Southern Europe is going to be poor. The Middle East, over there, will be a hot spot. Over there, I’ve placed a continent of white people and over there is a continent of black people.” God continued, pointing to different countries of the Earth. “This one will be extremely hot and arid, while this one will be very cold and covered in ice.”
The Archangel, impressed by God’s work, then pointed to a large land mass at the top of the Earth and asked, ‘What’s that one?”
“Ah,” said God, “that is CANADA, the most glorious place on Earth. There are beautiful mountains, lakes, rivers, streams and an exquisite coastline on both sides. The people from CANADA are going to be modest, intelligent and humorous and they are going to be found traveling the rest of the world. They’ll be extremely sociable, hard working and high achieving, and they will be known throughout the world as diplomats and carriers of peace. I’m also going to give them superhuman, undefeatable ice hockey players who will be admired and feared by all who come across them.”
Michael gasped in wonder and admiration, but then proclaimed, “What about balance, God? You said there will be BALANCE!”
God replied wisely. “Wait until you see the loud-mouthed ungrateful bastards I’m putting next to them!”
I love that one:)

It is all about assimulation.
My father came to Australia when he was only 5 my mother born here, never ever was i ridiculed from school friends or other people about the fact that my surname was difficult to pronounce or that I stemmed from another country.
I dont understand whether it was the calibre of the people that I have associated with, or that I am among the few lucky ones to be saved from the insulting remarks, or just that I was seen as an Australian through and through.
One would be prompted to ask oneself, why are we treated differently? Is it because we act so differently and refuse to give up our old ways?

America is a melting pot......that is why they absorb the other cultures and make them Americans, the Americans do not want the other cultures to have ties to there ancestoral lands..
The difference is that the Americans only want you to be proud that you are only American and nothing else, which I personally see nothing wrong with that ideaology to a point.....it creats great pride among the people and unites them.

Good one Lapotica, i agree 100%!
I could never live there either.
When my parents first came to Australia, it was bad time for them to say the least, being the one of the only Macedonians who spoke no english in the neighbourhood. It wasn't an easy task especially at that time, but having bottles thrown through the windows, people stealing the mail, being refused service at the local shops, with the countless racial remarks, it wasn't making it any easier for them either. Nevertheless as more and more Macedonians came about, the community became more accepting and so did the Macedonians. So twenty years on, we live an country that accepts all cultures and being rasied with that mentality i accept them too. So i don't see how one culture could be better than the other, only that we could learn from each other to embrace a greater understanding, some kind of respect for each other which would only benefit everyone, whether being Macedonian, Australian, American ,and Canadian and any other nation in the world.
Because life wasn't meant
to be boring! |

Canmak,
I understand the fact that Canada is a "cultural mosaic." I see this among people when I come to Canada every week. My little baba doesn't even speak a word of English and yet no one judges her or gives her a hard time, I have witnessed this when I go to the market with her.
However, I strongly disagree with you when you say that America is a "Melting Pot." You commented that "Americans only want you to be proud of being only American and nothing else," this comment just proves that it is not a Melting Pot. Melting Pot is referred to as a mixing of races, cultures, and people. However this does not occur.
You also said that America absorbs culture and doesn't want you to have ties to your ancestral land, but how could America absorb culture and then say they do not want you to have ties to your ancestral land. I mean who doesn't have ties to their ancestral lands. None of us really belong here except for the Native Americans. The Native Americans were even treated badly, and why I ask, because they let "Americans" live on their land while they were placed to live on reservations and treated like nothing.
The comments you stated, just proves what I had said previously that America is racist and ethnocentric. You Canmak, yourself, are ethnocentric when it comes to Canada, meaning that you think Canada is the greatest.

Yeah, thanks to your "superhuman, undefeatable ice hockey players" for helping my hometown team for winning the Stanley Cup three times in the past 5-6 years. :)

It was 3 times the past six yeaars and I love the WINGS......they are my team as well.........lets make it 4 times the past seven:)
Melting pot: society composed of many different cultures: a place where people of different ethnic groups are brought together and can assimilate, especially a country that takes immigrants from many different ethnic backgrounds
That definition to me is America, they melt all of these cultures together....creating a new one -an American one. I notice alot of mixing of races and cultures in the states.....just look at how many mixed marriages there are over there?
Cultural Mosaic: A cultural mosaic is a grouping of people from different cultural backgrounds that live in the same community who are proud of their heritage.
That is Canada
Is America racist sure there is people that live there that are racists........but not to the extent that you are saying it is.......I realize that there were race riots there not to long ago......but I believe that the american society as a whole is not a racist society......I look at the Ethic communities in America and see Greek town, Dearborn full of Arabs, Macedonian shops.....etc......ethnic groups have prospered there because they believed in the American dream....and became Americans.....now if you say that the States were Racists would they be able to prosper? Would people from other ethnic groups go to their stores restaurants etc. Heck all of downtown detroit is owned by people that are with different ethnic backgrounds
As for you saying I am ethnocentric...I disagree with that.....I do not think my ethnic group is the best I think no ethnic group is above and beyond another but I do feel that I live in the best country in the world..........I am proud of my country and if that makes me Nationalistic so be it.....but I hate no one....I get along with people from all races, religions etc.....there is no way I am ethnocentric

Canmak,
Call me crazy or stubborn if you would like, but I still don't see the "Melting Pot" of America.
Now I go to university in Dearborn and I am well aware of the Arabic community there, but you see they stay with their own kind. You see they don't really mix, but that is how it is with most cultures. The Greeks stay with the Greeks, the Italians with the Italians, and etc. People stay within their cultures to have identity and understanding. They are able to prosper in America because they communicate with people within their ethnic group. For example, in Canada, what is Erie Street known for? The Italians right. All of their shops are together and they stay within their ethnic group.
As for you being ethnocentric, you're right, you're not. I just threw that in there to take the piss out of you, but you never get mad.
Shall we call another truce.

Poo.......doesn't Detroit and the surronding area have the largets Arabic population outside of the middle east? 350,000 to 400,000 people ,of course you are going to find alot of Arabs that hang together and do honestly think that only Arabs shop at the stores in Dearborn? Similar buisness's congragate together because it helps out buisness....it creates a destination.......Mexican town, china town, Greek town etc.......it doesn't mean that America is not a melting pot.........America is a melting pot because the gov't makes it a melting pot by their laws etc..........the people don't have a say in it.
As for little italy in windsor.......more then 1/3 of windsor is of italian heritage........so just like the Arabic community in the states they to do the same thing to help out their buisnesses
And I do get mad but not at a person because we have different views.....
As for the truce give me the paper to sign

The Human Development Index (HDI) examines the health, education and wealth of each nation's citizens by measuring:
life expectancy;
educational achievement -- adult literacy plus combined primary, secondary and tertiary enrolment; and
standard of living -- real GDP per capita based on PPP exchange rates.

The difference is that the Americans only want you to be proud that you are only American and nothing else, which I personally see nothing wrong with that ideaology to a point.....it creats great pride among the people and unites them.

quote: Hello my virtual canadians,
I just wanna say that living in a multicultural country has got to be the best thing that could have happened to all of us.
Living in a western country hasnt changed who we are, I couldnt be more maco if I tried.
..FOXXY..

Canmak,
I understand the fact that Canada is a "cultural mosaic." I see this among people when I come to Canada every week.
